Milos - A horseshoe-shaped island

Milos is a volcanic Greek island in the Aegean Sea, 86 nautical miles from Piraeus and almost midway between Piraeus and Crete. The Venus de Milo (now in the Louvre) and the Asclepius of Milos (acquired by the British Museum in1867) were both found on the island, as were a Poseidon and an archaic Apollo now in Athens. Ancient town of Milos was located between Tripiti and Klima villages, where in nowadays the Roman theatre and the Catacombs of Milos are preserved. Dating from the 1st - 5th century, Catacombs of Milos are one of the three most important discovered worldwide, together with the catacombs of Rome and the Holy Land. It is possible that the Catacombs of Milos are older than the ones of Rome.
